“The Creation of Beauty is Art.”

-Ralph Waldo Emerson

I didn’t go into the cosmetology field through the traditional route. My passion has always been Art. I thought I had my path all charted out…

I was going to go to Savannah College of Art and Design, major in painting, graduate at the top of my class, and open an art studio where I would teach private lessons.
But I am getting ahead of myself ……

I met Abi when I was 12, when my mom was in search of a new stylist. My uncle has gone to Abi since the beginning of her career and highly recommended we go see her at The Color Loft. It was here that I began to open the door to the wide world of hair and make-up, becoming the designated makeup artist amongst my friends for any school dance. Makeup, after all, is just another form of art!

When Abi offered an internship, I jumped at the chance to learn more. She took me under her wing completely and mentored me; my interest growing into passion.

I soon became aware that this was perhaps the perfect way to work my way through Art school.

So I went to cosmetology school, with the idea that it would provide both flexibility and stability, allowing me to continue to pursue art. But the more I learned, the more I fell in love with Cosmetology.

Color theory was the same in hair as it was in art.
Haircuts were like a sculpture.
Barbering a bas relief.
Makeup is nothing more than portrait painting– -except now I get to create with a canvas that smiles back.

I believe it is important to mention my art background because it’s a part of who I am, and it has lead me to where I am now. I pursue my career with the same passion to learn and create. The attention to detail and artistry that I possessed from years in art classes blends seamlessly into the world of Cosmetology.

From the moment I decided to go into this industry, my goal was to someday work at The Color Loft. I am excited to say It is a privilege and pleasure to be here.
